1960-1964 Rev. W.W. Woods become pastor in 1960. Under his pastoral administration, the annex was completed and the cornerstone was laid by the Masonic Lodge. 1964-1997 Rev. L.H. Hendrix was called to pastor Bethel in January 1964. This man of God shall forever be recounted in the annals of Bethel's History as: instituting the Nurses Guild; organizing Mission Number Two; instituting the Young Adult Choir (Choir Number Three);implementing the Advisory Council; developing the Van-Land Plan; establishing the Education Committee; organizing Usher Board Number Three; organizing the Outreach Ministry; sponsoring the Youth Department's first revival; the incorporation of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church of Winter Park, Inc.; the purchase of properties on New England, Lyman, Welbourne and Virginia Avenues. The church was renovated, the annex and office were remodeled, the organ and piano were replaced and a van was purchased. (The church grew and numerous accomplishments were credited to his vision and administration.) "Faithfulness is always rewarded" was one of Rev. Hendrix's many sayings and his service exemplified this expression. 1997 - 2000 After the death of Pastor Hendrix, Rev. James Woods, our Associate Minister, was appointed as Acting Pastor and then Interim Pastor until April 2000. During his service Bethel's Educational Enrichment Program (BEEP) was established; the first Youth Explosion in Christian Stewardship was held; a new Van was purchased; A Leadership Council was organized and a Leadership Workshop held; and the Dining Room (Annex No. 1) was renamed The Reverend L.H. Hendrix Fellowship Hall. 2000 Rev. Kenneth Matthew Young arrived as our Pastor in April 2000. As he preaches and teaches Salvation, Discipleship and Stewardship, he emphasizes the importance of the "Ten Benefits of Favor" and has enhanced our "Love in Action" slogan to say "New Dimensions of Love in Action". He implemented a new format for worship and a new style for the weekly bulletin. A 7:30 a.m. "Morning Glory" worship service is held on Sunday mornings; early morning prayer services are held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 6:30 a.m. and noon day prayer services on Tuesday and Thursdays. |
