Mr. Nelson Legon
May 22, 1910 - November 2, 2005
My grace is sufficient for thee:
for my strength is made perfect in weakness
Mr. Nelson Legon was born in Bainbridge, Georgia on May 22, 1910, to Ed and Amanda Legon his mother died shortly after his birth; and his father died, when was approximately seven years of age. He was raised by two older sisters, Mollie and Ella.
Nelson Legon was the the father of three children - Pauline, Nelson Jr., and LeJune. He came to Florida in the early 1940's and was united in Holy Matrimony to Marie L. Legon. The couple raised three sons: Daryl, Bertelle and Dale; one daughter LeJune Marie; and a niece: Patricia, “Pat Brown” Wilson. The doors and hearts of Nelson and Marie were always open - not only to their own children, but to the community's children. “Mr. Nelson” always talked to the boys and young men about having respect for yourself and for others as well as about being on time, keeping your shirt tail tucked in and keeping your shoes polished!
Nelson Legon loved the Lord. He was quick to acknowledge: I KNOW THAT I AM A CHILD OF GOD. He would sometimes repeat over and over: GOD IS A GOOD GOD. In the past several years, his message has been: PUT GOD FIRST; AND KEEP GOD FIRST. For more than fifty years, Mr. Legon was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Winter Park. His commitment to God and the Church was evident in his services as Vice President of the Usher Board; and in his dedication and participation in the construction work that he did on the Church before and during the building of the Church's annex.
Nelson Legon leaves to mourn his departure; three loving daughters: LeJune Marie, Pauline Knowlton (Eddie) and Patricia Brown Wilson (Lawrence); four loving sons: Bertelle, Dale (Cynthia), Daryl (Madelyn) and Nelson, Jr. (Shirley); six grandchildren: Phillip (Angela), Kenneth (Bobby Joe), Lorenzo (Joy), Kenneth, Dawn Marie and Dayle Bertrell; eleven great-grandchildren: Kenneth, Kendyl, Damian, Joshua, Hannah, Marcus, Tyana, Marcy, Tamara, Brianne Marie and Zachary; and one great-great-grandchild: Kennedy; two sisters-in-laws: Henrietta Herring and Sarah Harper; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, honorary sisters, brothers, daughters, sons, Church Family and dear friends who will treasure his loving memory.
